Resurrection

I love spring.  Several weeks ago my romantic husband wandered through the grounds of Woodmont Hills and brought me home these treasures.

Something wakes up inside me every spring that I forget evens exists during the months of winter. I don't even mind winter--I love a lot about it but it's like there are daffodil bulbs in my spirit.  You don't know that they are there until a green shoot peeks up above the cold soil and before you know it a laughing sunny yellow blossom is bobbing it's head at you in the crystal light of the spring air.

I feel reborn.

Today I spent the morning out on the patio trimming, weeding, cleaning and getting it ready for planting.  It was a gorgeous 67 degrees, crystal clear spring blue sky, cardinals, mockingbirds and chickadees singing us their happy songs . . . . my sweet girls climbing the tree, pretending to be birds building nests, "cooking" up apple pies in the sand box, digging up worms and squealing with glee when the worms squirmed in their hands . . . We ate a snack at the picnic table and listened to hymns on my ipod.  A pretty idyllic morning!  It feels so good to get outdoors and work in the dirt.

Now on the plum the snowy bloom is sifted,
Now on the peach the glory of the rose,
Over the hills a tender haze is drifted,
Full to the brim the yellow river flows.
Dark cypress boughs with vivid jewels glisten,
Greener than emeralds shining in the sun.
"Who has wrought the magic? Listen, sweetheart, listen!
The mocking-bird is singing Spring has begun.

Hark, in his song no tremor of misgiving!
All of his heart he pours into his lay,--
"Love, love, love, and pure delight of living:
Winter is forgotten: here's a happy day!"
Fair in your face I read the flowery presage,
Snowy on your brow and rosy on your mouth:
Sweet in your voice I hear the season's message,--
Love, love, love, and Spring in the South!

We're getting more rain than sun around here these days, but your beautiful word pictures made my day brighter!

Normally, fall and winter are my favorite seasons, but this year... I just need quite a lot of spring! I couldn't wait for the flowers to bloom on their own, so Austin has been keeping me refreshed with a steady supply of cut tulips for the last few weeks. The daffodils are springing up now, so, that means our own tulips are right behind!

What a lovely post! I totally relate to the waking up to spring notion. I generally feel more light and hopeful in spirit during this season too. Your morning on the patio sounds delightful... I sort of wish that we had been there to share in the beauty, but then, of course, it probably wouldn't have been quite as peaceful! ;) BTW- I love that you have updated the girls' pages. While I am naturally kept up to date on these things, I just love to see it all written down! They are just precious!!!
